KaFe Rocks Working From Home - Office

At KaFe Rocks, we have always had the freedom to work from anywhere in the world. Being a multinational team, each of us has our individual needs, preferences and ways of working. Some of us prefer working from home, others prefer working from the office and many of us like to have a mix of both. However, all of us enjoy having a comfortable workspace.

We asked some of our fellow Rocketeers to share their tips on how to create the most perfect home office space.

Here are the top five:

1. Choose your tools

Technology empowers us to build amazing products for our users. That’s why we select the tech which enhances our abilities and helps us perform at our best. So here’s what Rocketeers love:

  • A computer: MacBook Pro 15”, not necessarily the latest one, since the predecessor still does the trick most of the time. Our Windows user Rocketeers like Dell XPS 15’’ laptop

  • Noise-cancelling headphones with GOOD microphones: Sony WH-1000XM3 Bluetooth Noise Cancelling Headphones or similar

  • Mouse & Keyboard: Most of us opt for the Magic Mouse & Keyboard

  • Second Screen: At least 27’’

At KaFe Rocks, we’re provided with the hardware and software that allows us to work at our best. We also have a choice to use our own devices.

2. Find your space

Create an office space, whether it’s a corner in your bedroom, an unused desk in your spare bedroom, a corner of the kitchen table or a full office room. Whatever space you have, dedicate it to work only and don’t share it with anything else. This will help you create a mental connection and put you in the right mindset when you’re in your workspace.

3. Furniture is important

While sometimes it’s okay to work from a dining chair or a sofa, only specially designed ergonomic office chairs provide comfort and back support that you really need for your physical health. Good office chairs offer a great amount of adjustability – in height, tilt, lumbar support – allowing you to tailor the settings to your body and avoid neck and lower back pain.

After your first six months at KaFe Rocks, you get a brand-new office chair of your choice that you can keep for life.

No matter how comfy your chair is, sitting in it all day isn’t doing your body any favours. That’s why we also like opting for an adjustable stand-up desk. Rocketeers love the BEKANT desk from Ikea (#notspon 😅) that you can adjust with a push of a button. After your first year at KaFe Rocks, you also get an adjustable stand-up desk of your choice.

4. Light up and declutter

When your workspace is bright and free of clutter, your mind can think brightly and clearly. Poor lighting can affect your mood and cause you to strain your eyes. Over time, this can cause headaches, making you less productive. So try to set up your office where you get as much natural light as possible. It’s also better for the environment. The next step is pretty simple – just get rid of the items that you don’t need. Decluttered and bright workspace can help you feel energised and may even boost your productivity.

5. Personalise

Probably the biggest benefit of the home office is that you can really make it your own. Here’s a list of things Rocketeers use to make their spaces feel personal:

  1. Pieces of art and framed inspirational quotes

  2. Themed mouse pads

  3. Scented candles

  4. Plants

  5. Lamps and mood lights

…and most importantly, make sure YOU are feeling comfortable and happy in your workspace. If none of these tips works for you, that’s absolutely fine. Experiment with different set-ups and find the one you enjoy the most.
